What is its purpose?
CEREC uses CAD/CAM technology to produce ceramic restorations such as crowns, onlays and veneers to restore any tooth that is decayed, weakened or broken. CEREC technology allows you to restore your tooth to its natural strength in a single appointment. The CEREC method has been carried out worldwide by thousand of dentists since 1987 and has produced over 30 million restorations.
No Impressions!
We take a digital scan of the tooth instead of a putty impression. No more messy impressions with tray filled with impression material that sits in your mouth until it sets. The digital impression is taken with a special intraoral camera. The CEREC software produces a virtual 3D model of the tooth and the surrounding teeth. We then use the software to design the ceramic restoration. The restoration design data is sent to the milling machine which fabricates the restoration in one appointment.
The Milling Machine
A ceramic block which matches the colour of your teeth is placed in the milling machine and the restoration is carved out using diamond-coated burs. The milling process takes place in the dental office and lasts between 10-15 minutes. The restoration is then polished and bonded in place. Patients love watching their restoration being milled in front of them.
